Oxford finally has a Dixy Chicken. The new branch is on Cowley Road in East Oxford, and it is so new that the council has not yet carried out its first hygiene inspection. Until recently, anyone in Oxford searching for Dixy was sent to Manchester, because the best-known branch with “Oxford” in its name is on Oxford Road in Manchester. This page covers both, so you end up at the right one.

“Awaiting inspection” does not mean anything is wrong. Every new food business has to register with its council before it opens, and it gets a rating after the first visit from an environmental health officer. Until then the register simply shows it as waiting. We will add the score here once it is published, or you can follow the link above to check.
Local press covered the launch, which came with a free burger giveaway to bring people in. We could not find the branch on Uber Eats, Deliveroo or Just Eat when we checked, which is normal for a shop in its first weeks. New Dixy branches usually join the apps once they are settled, so if you want delivery, search your app again in a few weeks.
Where it sits on Cowley Road
Number 266 is in the middle of the East Oxford stretch of Cowley Road, a busy street packed with independent takeaways, cafes and grocers. A lot of Oxford Brookes students rent in the streets around it, and there is a KFC on the same road, so the new Dixy has direct competition from day one. The Cowley Road branch had not published a menu online when we checked, so we can’t list its prices yet. Dixy franchisees set their own prices, but they tend to stay within a similar range. As a guide, this is what two established branches were charging in September 2026:

Cowley Road is the only Dixy we found in Oxfordshire. We searched the register for Banbury, Bicester, Abingdon, Didcot, Witney, Reading, High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Milton Keynes and Swindon and found none. The two closest branches are both around 40 to 45 miles away.

Slough is the easier trip from Oxford, mostly via the M40, and it has the better rating. Northampton is a similar distance to the north-east. Neither is worth a special journey now that Oxford has its own branch, but they are useful if you are travelling that way.
