Walsall has two Dixy Chicken branches about a mile apart: one on Freer Street in the town centre and one on Wednesbury Road in Pleck. Both have a 5 hygiene rating. What separates them is price, or more exactly how you order. When we compared the two, the same kind of meal cost £2 to £3 more on the Wednesbury Road branch’s Uber Eats listing than on Freer Street’s own ordering site.

A 5 is the top rating, meaning “very good”. Freer Street was marked good on all three things inspectors check: food handling, the building, and how food safety is managed. Wednesbury Road was marked good for food handling and the building, and very good for management. Walsall Council will inspect both again in due course, so check the links for anything newer.
Freer Street (town centre)
The town centre shop is run by Dixy Chicken Walsall Ltd, which was set up in November 2022 with its registered office at 38 Freer Street. It calls itself Dixy Chicken (Walsall Town) and takes orders by phone on 01922 915965, through its own ordering page, and on Just Eat. If you find an old Uber Eats listing called “Dixy Chicken (Walsall)”, it has been closed since January 2021. Uber Eats now shows a different business, Freer Street Kitchen, at the same address, so do not be surprised if you see that name in the app.
Wednesbury Road (Pleck)
The Pleck branch is on the main road out of Walsall towards Wednesbury and has street parking outside. Its phone number is 01922 721227, and it is busy on Uber Eats, with more than 4,000 ratings. At least one directory site marks this shop as permanently closed. That is wrong: it was inspected in March 2026 and was taking orders when we checked.

Two things to note. Freer Street only delivers from 5pm, so for a lunchtime order you need to collect it. Wednesbury Road shows a one-hour break on Friday lunchtimes, and it stays open an hour later than Freer Street every night. Freer Street’s prices below are from its own ordering site. Wednesbury Road’s are from Uber Eats, which usually adds the platform’s commission, and the Pleck menu does not always say how many pieces come in a box. So this is a guide to the gap, not an exact like-for-like test.
